Train Lines snake all across the UK, slithering through city centres and speeding across the countryside landscape. They are so commonplace it is easier to ignore them. It’s only when you take the time to listen to them, do you notice that the sound of Train Travel is a fascinating combination of industrial and human. The juxtaposition of huge pieces of moving machinery alongside the sounds of people travelling from place to place, going home or to see loved ones is what drew me to make these recordings.

UK Trains Sound Library by field recordist Dan Guest, features recordings taking on and around Trains on both the national lines around Leeds as well as the Tyne and Wear’s Metro System. Captured using a combination of Rode Shotgun Mics, JRF Contact Mics, DPA Omnidirectional Mics, and a Zoom H6 this library is perfect for filmmakers or musicians in need of either long form ambiences or single sound effects.
