RENT038 – as promised, back with a new sample pack and a new theme >>>
The first collection (ASMR Pack Vol.1) was all about those specific sounds that cut through a mix – pure ear candy – but this bag of samples is much broader in scope… in a word – DUBBY.
I grew up on dub and it’s lasted the test of time for me – I still run a lot of versions in my DJ sets but I also firmly believe it’s the real foundation of all electronic music (and also the future!)
So there are some similarities between the two packs – obviously a lot of dub has that ASMR vibe, but I decided to only work with loops this time, and force myself to set up new FX chains and get busy – there’s a lot of work here! Especially after fifteen or twenty minutes of jamming then having to cut it all up to make a groove for a thirty second loop… but it’s really reminded me how much I love exploring the studio as an instrument and tweaking away with loads of LFOs running etc… Anyway all the dubby oneshots will be included in X-Ray Pack Vol.2 >>>
About that title – it’s a nod to Lee Perry’s famous quote about calling dub ‘X-ray music’… and as for the sample titles themselves, I took the starting point ‘babylon’ and just ran with it – so all the fukry like disaster capitalism, neo-liberal agendas, privatisation, weapons manufacturers, genocide, exploitation, slavery, CIA torture techniques – feel free to get googling and go down a babylon rabbithole…
So this pack is inspired by everyone from the original dub masters like Scientist, King Tubby etc through to dub techno dons, junglists, scuzzed out industrial stuff, Ossia, Waage, blissed out 3XL stuff, ENA, Mala, 1000PA, Peter Van Hoesen, BZMC, Jay Glass Dubs, Vex’d, Al Wootton, Sa Pa, Spatial and more – I tried to mix a little of the old with a little of the new. This isn’t a pack for making classic 70s/80s dub, more just a starting point to go wild with the filters, flangers, phasers, Pultec EQs and of course my trusty Roland RE-201. Some stuff’s rugged and raw, some stuff’s modern and clean, but it’s all made with the spirit of dub.
Same pricing as last time – so if u want to pick and choose u can grab individual loops (except for where I’ve used placeholder beats, those are clearly labelled and just for giving u an idea of where the loops fall on the drums). Some jams were too good to cut down so I’ve included some longer loops (up to 9mins) so u can really pick your favourite bits and get your scalpel out.
